Intense Difference of Its Own Exhibition under way at KF Gallery

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Canada-Korea diplomatic relations, the special exhibition Intense Difference of Its Own is under way at the KF Gallery in Seoul. On July 1, the exhibition offered an especially meaningful experience to a large audience thanks to a performance by the acclaimed Rolston String Quartet from Canada.

Formed in 2013, the quartet is named after Canadian violinist Thomas Rolston, founder and longtime director of the Music and Sound Programs at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. It earned global recognition by winning first prize in 2016 at the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition and the 2018 Cleveland Quartet Award.

During the performance at the KF Gallery, the quartet played a variety of pieces, including “Seven Miniatures,” an original number created by seven composers who identify as neurodivergent or have a disability. “Seven Miniatures” represents the emotions that arise in the composers’ daily lives when working at a hardware store, sharing a creative moment with their families, or when frustrated by limited access to public facilities. The piece invites audiences to gain a better understanding of how the artists turn such moments into the acoustic creativity directed into each of their compositions. The exhibition can be enjoyed free-of-charge until August 12.
