오늘부터의 세계

빈곤과 환경 오염, 기후 위기 등 인류의 존속을 위협하는 문제들이 점점 더 가속화되고 있다. 가시적으로 드러난 위기의 징후가 국지적 현상이나 일시적 문제가 아니라 국제사회가 함께 대응해야 할 장기적 상황이라는 공감대가 형성되면서 문제 해결을 위한 모색이 전방위적으로 이뤄지고 있다. 이러한 기류에서 일종의 사회환경적 개념이자 실천적 의제이기도 한 '지속가능성'이 지금까지의 물질문화를 일궈온 방식을 반성하고 앞으로의 삶의 방향을 정비하는 데 있어 모든 영역에서 중요한 지침으로 다루어지고 있으며, 적용 방법론도 활발히 논의 중이다. UN을 중심으로 세계 각국이 머리를 맞대어 17가지의 '지속가능개발목표(Sustainable Development Goals, 이하 SDGs)'를 제정하고 목표 달성을 촉구하는 등 관련 논의도 그 어느 때보다 구체적 방향으로 전개되고 있다. KF와 주한체코문화원의 협력으로 준비된 전시 "오늘부터의 세계는 '지속가능성'에 관하여 이미 진전된 논의를 바탕으로 예술적으로 시각화 한 일련의 작업을 중심에 두고, 함께 생각해 볼만한 쟁점을 구체화하여 살핀다. “오늘부터의 세계"라는 단순한 표현을 통해 전시는 지금껏 일어난 많은 일들을 여과없이 중계하면서도, 변화의 시작점이 바로 오늘이라는 실천적 함의를 전달한다. 전시는 지속가능한 미래를 달성하기 위한 청사진인 SDGs를 바라보는 각기 다른 두 개의 시선으로 구성되었다. 체코의 젊은 작가인 다비드 톄신스키의 사진 연작과 함께 그래픽 디자인과 증강현실을 활용하여 제작한 'SDGs: 지속가능한 미래를 위한 혁신' 작업이 나란히 소개된다. 다비드 테신스키는 소외된 이들의 이야기를 전하기 위해 전 세계의 여러 지역을 방문하여 그들의 생생한 현실을 17장의 사진에 담아냈다. 각 작업들은 각기 다른 맥락에서 포착한 삶의 위기를 파편적으로 전달하는 듯하지만, 만연된 불평등과 공동체의 해체, 착취와 배제, 침략과 반목이 일상화된 세계의 풍경을 날카로운 시선으로 보여준다. 현실에 밀접하게 맞닿아 있는 사진 속 기록을 통해 우리는 지속가능성의 개념을 조금 더 현실적인 상황 안에 대입하여 숙고해보게 된다. 함께 전시되는 'SDGs: 지속가능한 미래를 위한 혁신' 프로젝트는 관람객이 스마트폰 앱을 활용해 증강현실에 참여할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 과학적 발견과 혁신이 우리의 미래에 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지를 구조화된 시각 자료로써 다룬다. 다큐멘터리적 구성의 사진을 감상하는 방식과 다르게 새로운 관람 경험을 통해 주어진 상황 속으로 몰입하게 된다. 전시 "오늘부터의 세계"는 과거를 반성적으로 사유하면서도 인류가 함께 만들어 나갈 공동의 미래를 진취적으로 대비하는 계기를 마련한다. 전시를 통해 '지속가능성'과 '지속가능한 개발 목표'를 다시 한번 되짚어 보고, 이를 위한 실천을 바로 오늘 시작해야 한다는 깨달음을 함께 공유해 나가고자 한다.

Towards the Day After Today

Poverty, environmental pollution, and climate change, all of which pose grave challenges to humanity, are increasing rapidly across the globe. There is widespread agreement that the visible indicators of these crises are not limited to a certain place or time period, but rather are long-term conditions requiring collective action. As a result, efforts have been made to provide realistic solutions. In this context, sustainability, as a socioeconomic term and a social agenda, has emerged as the dominant theme in all aspects of life. Discussing sustainability helps us reflect on old habits, which gave rise to today's materialistic culture, and ourselves as well as our future. With the UN establishing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 and urging states to accomplish them, the issue of sustainability has become ever more concrete.
The joint exhibition by the KF and Czech Center Seoul, "Towards the Day After Today," presents two different perspectives on the SDGs, the roadmap for a sustainable future. It features a series of photographs by Czech artist David Těšínský and the work titled "SDGs: Innovation for a Sustainable Future," which mixes graphic design with augmented reality.
David Těšínsky's photographs bring humanity's current condition into sharp focus.
The artist traveled all over the world to capture the experiences of people living in the margins of their respective societies. His photos depict fragments of the crises facing humanity, and together, his works show a world of pervasive inequality, broken communities, recurring exploitation and exclusion, as well as invasion and enmity. The images capturing these harsh realities allow us to explore the concept of sustainability and give us a chance for self-reflection.
The second part of the exhibition explores how scientific discoveries and innovation may impact our lives. The "SDGs: Innovation for a Sustainable Future" project allows visitors to immerse themselves in the exhibition by participating in an augmented reality experience with their smartphones or tablets.
The most noteworthy aspect of this exhibition is that it allows visitors to explore the SDGs from two perspectives: through Těšínsky's photographs, which artfully capture highly realistic scenes, and the scientific and playful AR work. Whereas Těšínsky's work provides an opportunity to consider humanity's current reality, the AR work enables visitors to playfully absorb the message the SDGs want to convey. After enjoying this exhibition, it is time to look at the world once again through new eyes. Starting from today.

• 다비드 톄신스키(1990년, 프라하 출생)

  체코 프라하 출신의 다비드 톄신스키가 사진에 담고자 하는것은 사람들의 이야기, 하위문화, 사회 다큐멘터리 그리고 순수미술이다. 고정관념에 대항해 나가는 젊은 작가로서 사회적 논쟁에 정면으로 대응하며, 발빠르게 현장을 찾는다.

  그는 이번 프로젝트를 통해 우크라이나 교전 지역에 위치한 한 초등학교의 모습, 자메이카와 가나 빈민가에서 살아가는 이들의 생활상, 브라질 아마존에서 일어난 고의적인 화재사건의 희생자를 조명하며 하위문화의 단념과 생생한 현장의 이야기를 전한다.

  그의 사진은 더 가디언, 바이스, 르 믕드, 베니티 페어, 허핑턴포스트, 슈테른, 슈피겔, 라 레푸블리카, 더 썬등에 게재되었으며 개인전 외에도 유럽, 미국, 이스라엘에서 열린 그룹전 등 총 80여 개의 행사에 참가했다. 또한 체코 보도 사진전에 7번 참가했으며 소니 월드 포토그래피 어워드, PDN 스토리텔러 상, 국제 올해의 보도사진상 우수상을 받았다.

  David Těšínský(b.1990, Prague)

  David Těšínský is an independent photographer who focuses on capturing (urban) subcultures, street life, and people's to open people's eyes. He is always looking for stories. His aim is to dismantle stereotypes and controversial, unique, special lifestyles and captures bright moments, which often contain the problems of our time.

  Těšínský's works cover various topics, such as the war in Ukraine; ghetto life in Jamaica and Ghana; communities affected by the willful fires in Amazonia, Brazil; and many more.

  His pictures appear in The Guardian, VICE, Le Monde, VANITY FAIR, The Huff Post, Stern, Spiegel, La Repubblica, The Sun. He had solo exhibitions and participated at the group exhibitions in the whole Europe, USA, in Israel and some more in about 80 events in total. He has participated in the Czech Press Photo seven times and has received awards in Sony World Photography Awards, PDN storytellers or Award of excellence by Pictures of the Year International.

  'SDGs: 지속가능한 미래를 위한 혁신'은 증강현실을 통해 17개의 SDGs 개념에 생명을 불어넣었다. 스마트폰이나 태블릿을 통해 앱에 접속한 후 개별 작품의 픽토그램을 카메라로 비추면 화면 속에 작품과 관련된 3D 이미지가 나타난다. 애니메이션이 덧입혀진 각 이미지와 함께 SDGS에 대한 설명도 볼 수 있어 보는 즐거움은 물론 지식의 확장까지 두루 경험할 수 있다.

Introduction of AR works

"SDGS: Innovation for a Sustainable Future" is an augmented reality (AR) work introducing the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). After logging into the app on your smartphone or tablet, use the camera to capture pictograms. Following that, 3D images will be shown. Each graphic is animated and features thorough explanations of the SDGs, delivering both a fun experience and an in-depth understanding of the respective goals' key aspects.

This exhibition was developed as a flagship exhibition at the headquarters of the the Czech Centres to commemorate the Czech Republic's presidency of the Council of the European Union. It has already been exhibited in the Czech Republic, Sweden, and the UK, and the KF Gallery is the first exhibition in Asia.
