In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment, the Korea Foundation hosts a special exhibition, titled “Creating Connections,” at the KF Gallery and online as 3D virtual exhibition from September 30 through November 9, 2021. Due to the global pandemic, “connection” has become one of the most desired and pursued concepts of these times. Taking a look back at the three decades of the Korea Foundation’s activities to connect people and act as bridge between Korea and the world, the exhibition aims at visually and perceptually realizing the Foundation’s vision of contribution to creating a better future through new and diverse connections.

Through archival materials, the exhibition presents the Foundation’s 30-year history from the late 20th to the 21st centuries. By reinterpreting its changes over three decades, a period amounting to one generation, viewers can witness the Foundation’s endeavors to explore the realm of public diplomacy in response to the demand of the times in the midst of internationalization and globalization starting from around the 1990s. They are also provided with an opportunity to widen the scope of their understanding about Korea’s status and international trends which have shown drastic changes for the past 30 years.

In addition, the exhibition shows the vision of the Foundation through real and virtual contemporary artworks. Korean artists Ourlabour (team), Jun Sojung, Jung Jihyun, and Jin Dallae & Park Woohyuk (team) showcase their graphic art, installations, videos, digital art, 3D printings, and metaverse-based artworks. Their works offer a chance to have a multi-layered and synesthetic experience of the meaning of various relations and connections between peoples and countries, past and present, as well as reality and the virtual world.
