In collaboration with Arirang TV, the Korea Foundation presents the “Funtastic Korea” trilogy, focusing on three themes: music, drinking, and cheerleading.

Following the “K-Innovation” series released in the first half of 2021, “Funtastic Korea” features Koreans’ heung, a word meaning joy and fun.

Part 1 “How Do Koreans Enjoy Music?” covers a variety of Korean music as well as the fan club culture of K-pop, which has gained worldwide popularity via hallyu, the Korean wave. Interviews with various artists and fans offer insight into the secrets of the broad hallyu fandom beyond borders.

Part 2 “How Do Koreans Enjoy Drinking?” introduces Korean alcohol and drinking culture, which have attracted people around the world. It also uncovers the unique history of Korean alcohol and its special meaning for the Korean people.

Part 3 “How Do Koreans Enjoy Sports?” offers deeper coverage of Korean cheerleading, heating up the atmosphere of stadiums with ttechang, a unique sing-along culture.

The documentary was aired throughout the world for three consecutive days from January 31 to February 2, 2022 via Arirang TV’s world channel and Korea channel, and the in-house network of the United Nations Headquarters in the United States. Now, it is accessible 24/7 on the KF’s website (kf.or.kr/archives) and YouTube channel (youtube.com/theKoreaFoundation).
