The Korea Foundation renders its support to Korean visual research group Ikkibawikrrr’s participation in documenta fifteen in Kassel, Germany from June 18 through September 25, 2022.
Held every five years in Kassel, Germany since its founding in 1955, documenta is an exhibition of contemporary art that is considered one of the most prestigious art events in the world. Every exhibition lasts for 100 days.
Ikkibawikrrr, formerly Mixrice, showcases video narrative works entitled Seaweed Story and Tropics Story at the Museum of Natural History Ottoneum.
Seaweed Story introduces the history and role of seaweed related to the Korean War and the Pacific War, while Tropics Story explores the remnants of the Pacific War and colonialism on the Yap Islands in Micronesia.
The works on display are expected to enable visitors to delve into the international relations of Korean history, while inspiring reflection on civilization and nature, and colonialism and ecology.
