KF and British Council to Support Global Climate Change Response Project “Littoral Chronicle”

After jointly inviting applications for the 2023 Korea-UK Creative Project in response to climate change, the Korea Foundation and the British Council have finally selected to support Littoral Chronicle.

Littoral Chronicle is a project that will record the stories of marine communities to learn the immediate and actual impact of oceanic farming on climate. The project will explore oceanic farming and coastal communities on Jeju Island and in Busan, Korea, as well as in Scarborough and Yorkshire in the UK. Littoral Chronical will also hold an offline workshop with the participation of young people, climate activists, and oceanologists from both countries, and organize a digital exhibition to present research and workshop results to the public, thereby proposing strategies to cope with the climate crisis through the stories of coastal communities in Korea and the UK.

The project is a collaborative work by Korean visual research band ikkibawiKrrr, Shezad Dawood of UBIK Productions, and curator Ritika Biswas. IkkibawiKrrr is a group that explores links between plants, natural phenomena, humanity, and ecology. With support from the Korea Foundation, they showcased their narrative videos at documenta 15, one of the most remarkable international contemporary art exhibitions, in Kassel, Germany from June to September 2022 as the only invited artist group from Korea.

It is hoped that Littoral Chronicle will contribute to increasing dialogue on climate change related to communities and the oceanic environment, attracting the attention of many to the issue.
