Vietnam’s First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Bui Quang Huy, Invited to Korea

Under the Korea-Vietnam Future-Oriented Exchange Program, the Korea Foundation invited a six-member Vietnamese delegation led by Bui Quang Huy, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, to Korea for a five-day starting on April 29, 2024.


First Secretary Bui Quang Huy also serves asthe Chairman of the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam** and plays a key role in shaping Vietnam’s youth policy. His visit to Korea is expected to foster greater youth exchange and cooperation between the two countries, further enhancing bilateral relations.


**The National Committee on Youth of Vietnam is a government body responsible for advising the Prime Minister on youth policy. It is composed of deputy ministers of ministries such as Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Labor, along with other officials from relevant government agencies.


During their stay in Korea, the delegation members met with Park Gu-yeon, First Deputy Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and Oh Kee-woong, Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups to discuss Korea’s youth policy and explore ways for pormoting cooperation between youth startups in both countries They also visited the National Institute for International Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity to discuss collaboration in youth exchange programs and training programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).


In addition, the Vietnamese delegation traveled to Busan, a sister city of Ho Chi Minh City, where they met with Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung to review the current state of cooperation between the local governments of the two countries’ and discuss strategies for enhancing future exchanges. They also engaged in discussions with Dongseo University President Chang Je-kuk regarding university student exchange programs between Korea and Vietnam and had the opportunity to meet with the Vietnamese students studying in Korea.


The delegation further visited the KF ASEAN Culture House, established in Busan in 2017 as a follow-up to the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in 2014, as well as other organizations including the Embassy of Vietnam in the Republic of Korea and the NongHyup Bank.
