The 4th Junior Korean Unification Experts Fellowship
Overview
The Junior Korean Unification Experts Fellowship (JKoEF) is a special program, provided by the Institute for Unification Education of the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea for mid-career foreign experts and scholars who are interested in Korean affairs. The JKoEF, which marks the fourth anniversary this year, provides a meaningful venue for international scholars and practitioners to share knowledge and deeper their understanding of the ROK government’s policy towards North Korea and a vision for a unified Korea. Networking among the experts at home and abroad is another valuable quality that JKoEF offers. If you want to join JKoEF, please read more below.

JKoEF participants will be given a range of in-class lectures followed by free discussion on the chosen subject, field trips and one-day International Conference.
• Topics for lecture including, but not confined to:
- The ROK’s unification policy and a vision for a unified Korea;
- The ROK’s unification diplomacy and international cooperation;
- Security issues on the Korean peninsula;
- Current tasks of the Inter-Korean relations; and
- Understanding North Korean society
• Field Trips:
- DMZ and Panmunjeom;
- Inter-Korean Transit Office;
- High school for North Korean refugees; and
- Settlement Support Center for North Korean Refugees(Hanawon), etc.
• Cultural Tours: Korean historical and cultural sites, contemporary history museum, etc.
• International Academic Conference: every attendee of JKoEF will participate in the conference as a presenter or discussant.
Eligibility
- Mid-career government officials or managers in private firms (preferably with a M.A. or higher degree)
- Junior scholars or researchers at universities, relevant institutes, or think tanks (preferably with a Ph. D)
- For Korean nationals, only those who have acquired permanent residency status in a foreign country or serve in a regular faculty position at a university abroad
- Applicants need to be fluent in English since the program’s working language is English.

1. Airfare: Economy-class round trip airfare (only provided to those who are based overseas prior to the start of this program.)
2. Accommodation, meals, domestic travel expenses for lectures and field tours
3. Honorarium for presenters and discussants of the international conference
* The airfare and honorarium will be given as CASH in KOREAN WON.
