My, Your, Our Lives in Cinema
2021 KF World Cinema Week: 'My, Your, Our Lives in Cinema' is hosted by the Korea Foundation(kf), which serves as a bridge between Korea and the world. In celebration of its 30th anniverary in 2021, KF has put together a series of special film festivals, whereby masterpieces from 30 countries around the world are presented. Following ASEAN Cineme Week and Central Asian Cinema Week held in March, 2021 KF World Cinema Week offers a rare opportunity to watch 14 films-from Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Guatemala, Paraguay, Sweden, Turkey, Peru, and Indonesia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyz Republic-that provide an overview of cinematic currents in each country. After the opening ceremony on June 18, film screenings are scheduled to take place at Seoul Art Cinema on June 19 to 20. Up until July 1, the entire program will be available for free on NAVER TV to anyone, anywhere, anytime. In addition, there will be special online talk programs involving filmmakers and experts from Korea. Through various family, action, comedy, animation and drama films, 2021 KF World Cinema Week will provide a chance for us to sympathize with honest and moving portraits of life in ditterent cormers of the world.

The Best Families
Peru, Comedy, 2020, 95min, Color
Luzmila and Peta are two sisters who have worked their entire lives as housemaids for Alicia and Carmen, two aristocratic ladies who are also sisters. In the beginning of the film, they are all busy preparing for the celebration of Carmen's 65th birthday. But when the son's lover turns up at the family gethering, the long-held secret involving both households is about to be revealed. Complemented by vivid colors and witty dialogues, the comedy film conveys critical wiews on different aspects of modern Peruvian society, including class conflict, gender identity, and bourgeois hypocrisy.
Javier Fuentes-Leon
Graduated from Medical School in Peru, and studied film directing at the California Institute of the Arts(CalArts). His directorial long-feature debut Undertow(2009)won more than 50 awards worldwide, including the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. He is the executive producer, director and co-writher of Netflix's original series Wild District(2018)

In 1973, a group of young girls at the elite catholic boarding school Notre-Dame du Nil in RWanda are given a French-style education. The everyday lives of the inquisitive and passionate girls are threatened by the highly charged tribal conflict outside the school gate. Adapted from Scholastique Mukasonga's acclaimed novel of the same title that won the 2012 Prix Renaudot, the film takes a careful look at the tribal conflict as the context of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide and the colonial experience through the eyes and sensibilities of the young girls.
Atiq Rahimi
A novelist and filmmaker. Rahimi co-write Earth and Ashes with the Iranian filmmaker Kambuzia Partovi, and directed a film based on it. The film was awarded the Prix du Regard vers I'Avenir at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. The Patience Stone was the first book ht wrote in French, and Our Lady of the Nile is his third feature film.

Pity
Greece, Comdey, 2018, 98min, Color
How close to the truth ate the emotions we experience in everyday life of on screen? There's a man sitting on the edge of a bed sobbing. While his wife is in a coma, words of consolation from his neighbors and colleagues become his source of energy. Eventually, he begins to crave other people's pity more and more voraciously. Observing the delicate relationship between emotions and despair, and communication and solitude, this illustrates trends in the contemporary Greek comedy spearheaded by Yorgos Lanthimos.
Babis Makridis
Born in Greece in 1970, Babis Makridis graduated from the Stavrakos Hellenic Film and Television School. His first short film, The Last Fakir(2005), won the best new director award at the International Short Film Festival won the best new director award at the International Short Film Festival in Drama. His feature debut, L(2012), was presented in the competition section at Sundance Film Festival, and won the Rotterdam Tiger Awards.

The Lunchroom
Argentina, Comedy, 2019, 78min, Color
Lila and her colleagues have always worked as cleaners at a library. When the arrival of a new director puts their jobs in peril, Lila’s biggest concern is the future of the unofficial staff cafeteria in the building's basement. She plucks up the courage to try and turn it into an official cafeteria, but soon runs into an unexpected quandary. The film observes the lives and anxieties of female laborers and class conflict from a comical yet sober perspective. Liliana Judrez won the Best Actress Award at the 2019 Mar del Plata Film Festival for her performance as Lila.
Ezequiel Radusky
Born in Argentina in 1981, Ezequiel Radusky is a film director, screenwriter and actor. His first feature film, The Owners (2013), was screened at the Cannes (International Critics’ Week), where he got a special mention from the jury. The Lunchroom won Best Project at the Europe Latin America Co-production VI Forum at San Sebastian Film Festival in 2017.

The Comeback
Sweden, Comedy, 2020, 93min, Color
When the promising badminton player Annbritt loses her temper following an incorrect referee call and uses violence, her career comes to an end. She tums to alcohol, and years later, her life hits the rock bottom as she is about to lose her home.Then she resolves to take revenge by winning against her old rival. Adapted from a popular television series consisting of ten 10-minute episodes, The Comeback is a heartwarming tale of one middle-aged woman who achieves true success in the face of failures and disappointments.
Patrik Eklund
Afilm director and writer from Sweden. His short film Instead of Abracadabra (2008) won the Best Swedish Short Film at the GothenburgFilm Festival and an Oscar nomination. He received global recognition with his short film Seeds of the Fall (2009), which won Canal+ Grand Prixat the Cannes.

The Heiresse
Paraguay, Drama, 2018, 98min, Color
Chela and Chiquita used to be an affluent elite couple. Nowadays, they are so heavy in debt that they must sell their silverware and furniture to make ends meet. To make matters worse, Chiquita gets arrested for fraud. As a result, Chela must learn to stand on her own two feet for the first time in her life, which proves to be a difficult challenge. Faced with such a crisis, Chela opens her eyes to new desires and undergoes change.The film took the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival, thereby drawing worldwide attention to Paraguayan films.
Marcelo Martinessi
Born in Paraguay, Martinessi studied film at the London Film School. He was the executive director of the first public television channel in Paraguay. His short film The Lost Voice (2016) won Best Short at the Venice International Film Festival. He won the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival with his feature debut The Heiresses (2018).

Aga
Bulgaria, Drama, 2018, 96min, Color
In northeastern Siberia, Nanook and Sedna, an elderly Inuit couple, spend a bitterly cold winter inside a yurt. Days pass without a glimpse of reindeer or fish, and as Sedna’s health deteriorates, Nanook becomes seriously worried. Milko Lazarov's critically acclaimed film Aga offers a quiet observation of the lives of our neighbors somewhere else in the world who may be strange to us but are certainly our contemporaries, along with the spectacular scenery of the Sakha Republic. The film was screened at many international film festivals including the Venice Film Festival, and was the closing film of the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival.
Milko Lazarov
A Bulgarian film director born in 1967. He graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was a lecturer in NATFA’s film department. His feature debut Alienation was awarded Venice 70 in the official selection of Venice Days.

The Wild Pear Tree
Turkey, Drama, 2018, 188min, Color
Upon graduating from university, Sinan returns to his hometown to find a job as a teacher so he can help support his family. He is an aspiring writer who dreams of publishing his own novel. However, his father's gambling addiction means the family’s economic situation shows no sign of improving. Sinan takes one day at a time, precariously going back and forth between reality and dreams. The celebrated Turkish filmmaker Nuri BilgeCeylan embraces the anxiety and crisis of the young man facing the walls of reality—against the backdrop of the variegated landscape of northwestern Turkey. The film premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
누 Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Born in Istanbul in 1959, Nuri Bilge Ceylan is a film director, photographer and screenwriter. His directorial debut The Small Town (1997) won theCaligari Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. He went on to win Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011), and then Palme d'Or for Winter Sleep (2014).

Mr. Tulio's Hostel
Guatemala, Comedy, 2018, 9Smin, BW
Tulio goes back and forth between being a dreamer and being an eccentric. Paying no attention to the looks of disapproval from those around him, he lives in his own world in the hostel that he runs, in the company of his son and several guests.When his brother Quique and his girlfriend Alen make a surprise visit, Tulio clashes with them on everything. Tensions rise as Tulio falls in love with Alen. The plots draws a fascinating link between a macroeconomic view of Guatemalan society and Tulio’s microscopic life. The various tunes played by different bands in the film add to the film's charm.
Rodolfo Espinosa
A writer and director from Guatemala, He wrote and directed Aquí me quedo (2010), The 4 Liters (2016), and Pol (2014), and worked as a 3D animator for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005). His directorial credits include the TV series Nuestra es la voz, de todos la palabra (1987).

Tito and the Birds
Brazil, Animation, 2018, 73min, Color
Tito is a young boy who lives with his mother. One day, a myste-rious epidemic starts to spread in his village. Tito discovers that the cure is somehow related to his missing father’s research on birds. Together with his friends, he embarks on a journey to find the antidote. Since its premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, the film has been screened around the world and won numerous awards. Tito and the Birds is a delightful family animation that will instill hope and courage in children and grown-ups who are tired of the mundane daily life in the wake of COVID-19.

Ex-convict Kermek, a big fan of Alan Delon in Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samurai, has a dream to build a movie theater in the mountains. The film follows Kermek’s journey heaving the crime-infested town with his beloved Eva from the red-light district. While Yellow Cat does deal with serious issues like corruption, prostitution, and crime, its tone is predominantly light and the protagonists Kermek and Eva are too naive. It is a road movie mixed with satire and slapstick comedy of Kermek and Eva chasing their dream.

Heavenly Nomadic

A family of horse-herding nomads lives in the remote high mountains of Kyrgyz Republic. Tabyldy, the head of the house-hold, and his wife Karachach lost their son by a drowning accident in a mountain river. After that, they live with their daughter-in-law Shaiyr and their granddaughter Umsunai. When another resident appears-meteorologist Ermek, whose weather station is located near the family’s home, the family’s peaceful life begins to change. The film is a gentle story about the inevitable clash of tradition and modernity amidst the beautiful scenery of Kyrgyz Republic.
