시간을 여는 시간 UNLOCKING TIME

한국국제교류재단은 2024년 9월 27일부터 2025년 1월 24일까지 KF XR 갤러리 기획전 < 시간을 이룬 시간 > 을 개최한다. <시간을 여는 시간> 은 과거의 이야기가

즉 현재나 미래의 시점에서 역사로 기록되고 기억될 때, 그 시간이 '가상(Virtual)'의 성격을 띠게 된다는 아이디어에서 출발한다. 전시는 역사와 시간을 가상의 관점에서 탐구하고 과거, 현재, 미래를 일방향적이고 통시적인 개념이 아닌 공존 가능하고 대화를 통해 교감할 수 있는 다차원적인 대상으로 재해석한다.

특히 이번 전시는 한국과 콜롬비아를 중심으로 각국의 역사에 대한 동시대적 통찰과 시간을 바라보는 다양한 관점을 미디어아트 및 실감형 작품들로 구현한다. 작품들은 과거의 역사적 기억에서부터 우주 시대의 미래 인류 향방에 이르기까지의 너른 시간을 배경으로 한다. 관람객들은 이를 통해 시간의 역사와 무게를 체감하는 동시에, 그 흐름이 어떻게 재구성되어 현재와 미래를 비추는지 경험하게 된다.

한국의 구범석과 콜롬비아의 세르히오 브롬버그 & 이레네 레마는 각각 두 나라의 역사적 인물들을 동시대적 맥락에서 재조명하며 각국의 역사를 바라보는 다층적 시각을 제시한다. 이는 동시에 두 국가 역사를 한 자리에서 체험하고 상호 교감하게끔 하는 특별한 기회를 마련한다.

최근 미국 LA를 기반으로 활동하는 콜롬비아-한국계 작가인 갈라 포라스-김과 한국의 유상현은 한국 전통 무용을 중심으로 역사가 기록되고 기억되며 재현되는 방식을 가상의 관점에서 탐구한다. 이들에게 과거, 현재, 미래는 분절된 것이 아닌 끊임없이 혼재하고 번역되며 상호작용하는 유기적이고 다층적인 층위로 존재한다.

한국의 ACC 상호작용예술랩과 헛 것은 디지털 신기술을 활용하여 전통 예술 속 가상 세계로 실감 나게 침투하는 경험과, 현대의 첨단 기술이 미래에 역사로 남을 때에 관한 상상력을 자극하는 작품을 선보인다. 작품들은 기술과 예술의 경계를 허물며, 오늘날 우리가 누리는 시간이 역사의 일부로 기록될 때의 모습을 상상하게끔 한다.

한국의 듀오 작가 룸톤, 팀 디폴트 그리고 김세진은 시간의 역사를 인류나 지구의 역사를 넘어 다른 생명체와 우주의 영역으로 확장하여 살펴봄으로써 미래 우주 시대 글로벌 인류의 향방을 논해보는 시간을 선사한다. 특히 우리와 다른 존재, 낯선 존재들과의 소통에 대한 의지를 통해 인류의 미래가 보다 더 긍정적으로 나아갈 수 있는 가능성을 모색한다.

《시간을 여는 시간》 전시가 관람객들에게 무한과 찰나가 공존하는 경이로운 경험을 선사하고, 각국의 역사적 순간들과 시차 없이 교감할 수 있는 열린 장이 되기를 바란다. 또한, 시간의 경계를 넘나드는 대화를 통해 공유된 역사적 경험과 상호 이해를 바탕으로, 한국과 콜롬비아, 나아가 외부 세계와의 연대와 교류를 통해 더 나은 미래를 향한 공동의 비전을 모색하는 시간이 되길 희망한다.

From September 27, 2024, to January 24, 2025, the Korea Foundation hosts the Unlocking Time exhibition at the KF XR Gallery. The exhibition's title stems from the idea that after events occur, their stories, recorded and remembered in the present or future, acquire a "virtual" characteristic. This exhibition explores history and time from a virtual perspective, reinterpreting past, present, and future not as linear or simultaneous concepts, but as multidimensional subjects that coexist and communicate.

Unlocking Time notably centers on Colombia and Korea, offering contemporary insights into the histories of these countries through media art and immersive works. The artworks span a broad temporal range-from historical memories to humanity's future directions in the space age. Visitors will experience the weight and history of time while observing how it is reconstituted to illuminate the present and future.

Korean artist Bryan Ku and Colombian artists Sergio Bromberg and Irene Lema highlight historical figures from both countries within a contemporary context, providing a ed perspective on each nation's history and fostering a unique opportunity for visitors to experience and empathize with both national narratives.

Colombian-Korean artist Gala Porras-Kim, currently based in LA (USA), and Korean artist Cooper Yoo explore traditional Korean dance and how history is recorded, remembered, and represented from a virtual viewpoint. For these two, the past, present, and future are not discrete but are continuously mingled, translated, and interacted with, existing as dynamic, multied entities.

The Interactive Art Lab of the National Asian Culture Center (ACC) in Korea and Korean team HUT-GUT utilize digital technologies to delve into virtual worlds within traditional arts and stimulate the imagination to contemplate how today's advanced technologies might be remembered in the future. Their works dissolve the boundaries between art and technology, encouraging viewers to envision how today's moments might be recorded as part of history.

Korean artist duo ROOMTONE, team DEFAULT, and Sejin Kim extend the exploration of time's history beyond humanity and Earth to include other life forms and cosmic realms, discussing the trajectory of global humanity in the future space age. Their works, particularly focused on communication with different and unfamiliar beings, explore the possibilities for a more positive future for humanity.

Unlocking Time aims to provide visitors with a wondrous experience where infinity and particular moments coexist, offering an open space to resonate instantaneously with historical moments from various countries. Through cross-temporal dialogues, it seeks to foster shared historical understanding and explore a collective vision for a better future through solidarity and exchanges between Colombia, Korea, and the broader world.
