The 2016 Winter edition of Koreana, a comprehensive quarterly on Korean culture and art, is now available. This edition highlights Korea’s cinema culture. Film critics and actors currently active in Korea introduce Korea’s new breed of directors to examine a variety of noteworthy subjects, such as the Korean industry’s unusual quirks, marketing initiatives that hint at future trends, and the types of characters and actors associated with the popularity of Korean films. Additional topics include the media art of Nam June Paik, a behind-the-scenes look at the extreme demands placed on potential girl groups in Korea, generational preferences for emoticons and chat groups, and more.
