[Review] 2016 Workshops for Korea-Related Educators

In September and October, a short workshop was held in Korea for educators from Oceania and Thailand. A total of 96 secondary-level educators from Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand visited Korea to deepen their understanding of Korea by attending in-depth lecture sessions and touring cultural heritage sites. Another workshop was conducted in the U.S. by the Korea History and Culture Education Committee (KOHEC), which included the participation of 30 local educators who participated in informational lectures and Korean cultural activities.
Meanwhile, a workshop for Southeast Asian Korean language educators, hosted by the KF and organized by the International Association for Korean Language Education, was held at the University of Malaya, in Kuala Lumpur, on November 25–26. In addition to 28 local educators, more than 20 Korean language instructors from Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Indonesia, participated in the presentations and discussions that sought to improve Korean language education in the region. In particular, the sessions focused on the current status of Korean language in the education and curriculum development of Southeast Asia, and encouraged the exchange of ideas related to the methodology that is being customized to match the particular circumstances of local students.
