2017 SeoulLA Forum in March

The KF and the US Pacific Council on International Policy (PCIP) jointly hosted the first meeting of the Seoul-LA Forum in Los Angeles on March 31, 2017, under the theme ”Economic Prosperity of Korea and the United States.”
Tony Seba’s keynote speech “Why Energy and Transportation Will Be Obsolete by 2030” was followed by two sessions of presentations and debates: the first session covered the topic ”Revitalization of Economy Through New Technology Between US and Korea,” while the topic for the second session was ”Trade in Northeast Asia and the Korea-US FTA.” Participants exchanged views about the new US government’s isolationist stance based on the growing visibility of trade protectionism, sought ways to deal with the changing global trade environment, and discussed important matters in the fields of economy, trade, and industry.
The KF has consistently operated bilateral dialogue channels for a variety of political and security issues with US experts in the East Coast and plans to create an equivalent organization on the West Coast that aims for mutually sustainable development on a dialogue-based platform for economy, trade and industry. The KF expects the first forum to serve as a stepping stone for the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations through a shared geopolitical understanding, economic values and ‘win-win’ strategy based on the expansion of technological cooperation in areas related to the fourth industrial revolution.
