Meeting the World in Korea - Pakistan, Jordan, and Romania

On a breezy spring Saturday in March, the World Activity Class introduced the children at Taean Children’s Center in Hwaseong (a city on the southern outskirts of Seoul) to the cultures and traditions of Pakistan, Jordan, and Romania.
The children listened to stories about the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and the Himalayas, decorated clay bells with traditional Pakistani patterns, and tasted samosas, a popular street food. While they studied the culture and language of Jordan, the children made the country’s national flag out of colored sand.
During the final class, Catalina Ciubar from Romania talked about Romanian culture and taught the children how to make the traditional red and white tasseled strings celebrating Mărțișor, the beginning of spring on March 1. Ciubar said she had a great time with the children thanks to their enthusiastic participation and that she wanted to study Korean more so that she can talk to the children in their mother tongue next time.
