[Review] Korea-US Strategic Forum

The third ROK-US Strategic Forum was held in Washington, D.C., on June 18–19 jointly hosted by the KF and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Coming on the heels of the inter-Korean summits in April and May, and the US–North Korean summit in June, the large-scale open forum dealt with the grand theme of assessing the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, North Korean Chairman of the State Affairs Commission. The meeting proceeded through three sessions, “Assessing the Inter-Korean Summit and the US-North Korea Summit,” “Denuclearization and Peace Regime on the Peninsula,” and “Regional Implications of Summit Diplomacy.”
Keynote addresses were given by Senator Cory Gardner and Lim Sung-nam, First Vice Foreign Minister, and spirited discussions ensued among former Foreign Minister Yoon Young-kwan; Ma Sang-yoon, Director-General for Policy Planning of the Foreign Ministry; Paik Haksoon, President of the Sejong Institute; Lee Hochul, Professor at Incheon National University; and Kim Joon Hyung, Professor at Handong Global University.
The Korea-US Strategic Forum is a high-level 1.5-track dialogue function held annually. Participants are policymakers and academics in the fields of politics, diplomacy, security and defense, and economy and trade. This latest meeting was attended by many prominent policy experts from the two sides as it was held directly following the summits involving the two Koreas and the United States. The forum was closely followed by Korea watchers both in and outside the nation, hosting candid, in-depth exchanges on how to cooperate towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
