Koreana Summer Issue Highlights Korean Palaces

One of the striking features of downtown Seoul is the sight of ancient palaces nestled among skyscrapers. Serving as sites for education as well as places of rest or entertainment, the palaces provide special experiences to the public.

The summer issue of Koreana, the KF’s comprehensive arts and culture quarterly, highlights a few key aspects of the history of the Joseon-era palaces in the Korean capital, such as landscaping or the refreshments enjoyed by the royal families, and how people today appreciate the time-honored grounds, which allow them to explore art, enjoy concerts, or stroll through their gardens wearing traditional Korean garments.

The magazine will also introduce the unprecedented photo-sculpture composites of Gwon Osang; the dynamic county of Yangyang, home to Korea’s first beach used exclusively for surfing; the merits of sundubu jjigae, a soft tofu stew with classic Korean flavors that is loved by Koreans and non-Koreans alike; and many other interesting stories.

From the summer issue on, Koreana will publish a new column on environmental and sustainability issues, beginning with an article on “Trash Busters,” a service that rents out and picks up reusable containers.
