
The Korea Foundation invited 12 distinguished figures in the fields of diplomacy and security from 12 countries to Korea from April 8 to 14, 2018. The invited guests included Sudan’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Al-Nai’m Abdel-Ghani and heads of policy research institutes in India and ASEAN, the region of diplomatic and strategic importance to Korea.
On the occasion of the visit of Undersecretary Al-Nai'm Abdel-Ghani, very influential in Sudanese politics, to Korea, the two countries’ foreign ministries co-hosted the seventh Korea-Sudan policy meeting on April 12. The representatives of the two countries discussed such issues as regional political situation as well as the consolidation of bilateral economic cooperation, trade, investment and development following the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Sudan in October last year.
Also included in the delegation were distinguished guests from India and ASEAN, the target of the South Korean government’s New Look South Policy. Among them were Sophea Eat, Undersecretary of State in Charge of Central, South and East Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, responsible for Cambodia’s foreign policy toward Asia, and Brahma Chellaney, Director, Center for Policy Research, a renowned scholar of international politics and active in contributing articles.
During their stay in Korea, the invited guests visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), the Korea National Diplomatic Academy and other relevant organizations to discuss specific ways to cooperate and build a network with their Korean counterparts.
