The Korea Foundation and Chatham House, U.K., co-hosted the 2018 KF-Europe Next Generation Policy Experts Forum in London on May 17. Chatham House is one of the world’s leading think tanks and has been cooperating with the Korea Foundation since 2015 in identifying and fostering young European policy experts in Korean issues.
Held at a critical juncture before the imminent U.S.-North Korea summit, the recent Forum was attended by 12 young European policy experts in East Asian affairs. The participants held in-depth discussions on the achievements of the recent inter-Korean summit, building a peace system on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea’s candlelight protests, and other issues related to the Korean Peninsula and the development of South Korea-EU relations.
Leading experts from Korea participated in the Forum and engaged in spirited discussions with the young European policy experts. The Korean delegation included Lee Sihyung, President, Korea Foundation; Wi Sung Lak, Visiting Professor at Seoul National University and former South Korean Ambassador to Russia; Choi Wooseon, Associate Professor, Korea National Diplomatic Academy; Ohn Daewon, Professor, Graduate School of International and Area Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies; Im Hyug Baeg, Chaired Professor, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology; and Lee Chang-Min, Associate Professor, Hanyang University.
