On May 20, on the occasion of the 13th Global Gathering, the ASEAN Culture House, operated by the Korea Foundation, set up an “ASEAN Special Zone” at the APEC Naru Park in Busan.
Co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Foundation for International Cooperation, the Busan Immigration Office and the ASEAN Culture House, “Global Gathering” is a cultural event to introduce world cultures to Koreans and foreign residents in Korea. The ASEAN Culture House, established in Busan last year by the Korea Foundation, participated in organizing the event as part of its efforts to reach out to Korean citizens and foreign residents in Busan .
See! - Photo Zones of ASEAN Miniature Landmarks
At the ASEAN Special Zone, miniature landmarks of the ten ASEAN member countries were set up to allow Busan citizens and foreign visitors to take memorable photos in front of them. Many made use of the opportunity and for a brief moment, they could feel as if they were on a trip through Southeast Asia.
Taste! Smell! - Coffee, Tea and Confectionery from the ASEAN region
In addition, an “ASEAN Café” was opened to offer visitors coffee, tea and confectionery of each of the ten ASEAN member countries, enabling guests to experience ASEAN culture through drinks and sweets.
Hear! Touch! - World Heritage Sites, Traditional Wedding Costumes and Traditional Games of ASEAN
Various ASEAN-related experience programs were offered at the ASEAN Special Zone. Visitors were able to pay World Heritage Sites in ASEAN countries a virtual visit by using virtual reality (VR) headsets. They could also try on traditional wedding outfits from the ten ASEAN members states and play traditional games from the ASEAN region, thereby enhancing their understanding of ASEAN culture whilst having a great deal of fun.
The ASEAN Special Zone welcomed around 6,000 visitors during the Global Gathering 2018. We hope to see them again soon at the ASEAN Culture House!
