
The Korea Foundation invited 17 distinguished figures in the political arena around the world to Korea for seven days from September 2 thorough 8, 2018.
The invited guests included Maria Antonia Rivera Rosales, Vice President, Honduras; Sagala Ratnayaka, Minister of Youth Affairs, Project Management and Southern Development, Sri Lanka; and Mohsin bin Mohammed Al Shaikh, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, Oman.
Vice President Rivera Rosales of Honduras has a major impact on her country’s politics, economy and industry in general. While serving as the vice president of the National Party of Honduras, she became a vice presidential running mate of the current President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, when he ran for his second presidential term. She was appointed Vice President of Honduras in 2018 with a tenure running from 2018 through 2022. Currently she leads projects for effective government’s public administration works and procedures. During her visit to Korea, she met with officials of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to share South Korea’s experience of e-government development models.
Chairman Mohsin bin Mohammed Al Shaikh of Muscat, Oman, Mayor Faraj Aban of Janzur, Libya, and Deputy Mayor Jill Day of Wellington, New Zealand visited South Korea’s local governments to discuss ways to promote cooperation.
In addition, the invited guests visited the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other local governments and major ministries. Especially during their visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they were briefed on the recent situation on the Korean peninsula. They also visited the Odusan Unification Tower. Such visits provided them with an opportunity to enhance their proper understanding of South Korea’s diplomacy and security issues.
