On October 1, 2018, the Korea Foundation and the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) welcomed German opinion leaders to Berlin for the inaugural KF-DGAP Speakers Forum.
Former South Korean Foreign Minister Yoon Young-kwan delivered a keynote speech on the denuclearization of and establishment of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. His speech was followed by animated discussion between Kim Byung-yeon, Professor, Seoul National University; Eric Ballbach, researcher specializing in the foreign and security policies of North and South Korea, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP); and Christoph Hallier, Head of Division, Nuclear Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Federal Foreign Office, Germany.
Hosting this forum in Germany held special significance given the country’s experience with unification. The event served as a meaningful occasion for the two countries’ opinion leaders to actively exchange ideas and discuss unification-related issues.
