On October 10, 2018, the Korea Foundation hosted the opening ceremony of a Korea-Thailand contemporary art exchange exhibition, titled “Out of Place,” at the KF Gallery in Suha-dong in downtown Seoul. The exhibition is part of the “KF Global Bridge II - Sabai Sabai" program, which features numerous cultural events and commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Thailand.
Director-General SONG Jung-sok of the KF’s International Cooperation Bureau opened the ceremony with his welcoming remarks, followed by congratulatory and greeting remarks by the Thai Ambassador to South Korea, H.E. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, and the exhibition’s Thai guest curator, Mr. Chol Janepraphaphan.
The exhibition introduces social aspects of Korea and Thailand as well as Thai culture characterized by its hybridity and diversity through various genres of visual languages, including video, installations, photography and painting, by eight teams of Korean and Thai artists.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the HPARK Travel Agency, led by participating artist PARK Hye-min, held a lunch and a dinner workshop on food from around the world on September 19, 2018, and guest curator Chol Janepraphaphan gave a curator talk on contemporary Thai art seen through data on October 11, 2018. A Korea-Thailand graffiti show is also scheduled to be held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza during the KF’s First Public Diplomacy Week in November.
The exhibition at the KF Gallery continues until November 9, 2018, and will then move to the ASEAN Culture House in Busan in December.
