
The Korea Foundation organized the KF Special Lectures on Korea in India at three institutions of higher learning - Madras Christian College, University of Madras and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) - on October 22 and 23, 2018. The lecture program was designed to help Indian scholars and students deepen their correct understanding of Korea. Ewha Womans University Professor Park Ihn-hwi delivered a lecture on international political situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula and South Korean democracy, and Korea University Professor Kim Andrew Eungi on Korean culture and Hallyu. In addition, South Korean Consul General in Chennai Kim Hyung-tae attended the event at the University of Madras and spoke on political situation and outlook on the Korean Peninsula, and current status of South Korea-India relations and also South Korea's relations with South India in his congratulatory speech. The lecture program attracted about 300 professors and undergraduate and graduate students of political science and public administration in India, showing their increased interest on Korea through question and answer sessions.

The program entitled KF Special Lectures on Korea is annually held at countries and regions with less developed Korean studies programs. It was first organized in Mexico in 2004 and has since been held at major universities in Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East. Increasing the scope of target region, the program was held in ASEAN in 2013, Eurasia in 2014 and MIKTA in 2015. It was also organized in Indonesia and Thailand in April this year.
