The Korea Foundation and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) co-organized
the KF-Russia Next Generation Policy Experts Study Tour to Korea in Seoul and the
Gyeonggi area for seven days from November 18–24, 2018.
The Russian delegation was composed of promising researchers conducting policy studies at
prestigious institutions, including the Moscow State Institute of International Relations
(MGIMO), the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the
Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) under the Presidential Administration of
Russia. They were led by RIAC Vice President and former Russian Ambassador to the
Republic of Korea Gleb Ivashentsov in their visit to Korea.
Together with Korean researchers from both private research institutes such as the Asia-
Pacific Research Center of Hanyang University and the Sejong Institute as well as the
Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, the Russian delegation participated in a total of
three roundtable meetings on the current political situation on the Korean Peninsula and
direction for cooperation between South Korea and Russia. The Russian researchers engaged
in various practical discussions with their Korean counterparts through presentation and
discussion sessions.
During their stay in Korea, the Russian researchers also visited the Ministry of
Unification, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly Future Institute, and
the Asan Institute for Policy Studies to discuss cooperation in coping with political
changes in Northeast Asia. In addition, they had an opportunity to experience Korean
culture when they attended a performance of the acclaimed non-verbal show Nanta and
visited Insa-dong in Seoul.
