From November 28 to December 11, 2018, the Korea Foundation held the “Eurasia Lecture Series – Meeting the Future in Central Asia,” which comprised ten lectures on Eurasian economy and history as well as the Silk Road, at Chonbuk National University, Ajou University, Pusan National University, Keimyung University and the KF Global Center in Seoul.
While some lectures, including “Central Eurasia: History and Challenges” by Professor Shin Beom-sik of Seoul National University and “The Silk Road and the Fur Road, and the Korean Peninsula” by Professor Yun Seong-hak of Korea University, provided the audiences with an overview of Eurasia and Central Asia, others focused on the region’s working and business environments, including “Eurasia and the Korean Peninsula: Opportunities and Challenges” by Chairman Yang Yong-ho of the Eurasia Business Association and “Understanding the Economic Situations in CIS and Regional Characteristics” by Oh Ju-hwan, the former Director of the Almaty Office of the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation.
The Korea Foundation organized the lecture series to enhance young Koreans’ interest in and understanding of Central Asia at a time of growing demand for a professional workforce with expertise in the Eurasian region due to the Korean government’s New Northern Policy. The lectures were not only held in Seoul but also at key universities in Busan, Daegu, Jeonju and Suwon.
