
The Korea Foundation, Spain’s Casa Asia, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies co-organized the 12th Korea-Spain Forum in Barcelona on January 24 and 25, 2019.
Since its inaugural meeting in 2003, the Korea-Spain Forum has established itself as the leading bilateral channel between the Republic of Korea and Spain, gathering to discuss cooperation in addressing issues of mutual concern and developing bilateral relations.
The 12th Korea-Spain Forum was attended by 17 leading individuals from the Korean side and about 40 from the Spanish side. The Korean delegation included Lee Si-hyung, President of the Korea Foundation; Park Chul, former President of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies; Jung Ki-hong, Director-General for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Kim Sung-han, Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies at Korea University and former Vice Foreign Minister; and Chun Hong-jo, South Korean Ambassador to Spain. The Spanish participants included Ana Sálomon, Director-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Juan Ignacio Morro Villacian, Spanish Ambassador to South Korea; and José Ángel Narváez, President of the University of Málaga.
Under the theme of “Building a Common Way,” the participants engaged in in-depth discussion on issues of mutual interest such as dialogue for strategic cooperation, economic and business cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and green economy, cooperation in education and culture, and the city as a space for cooperation.
