[Review] KF-CSIS Forum

On April 18, the KF and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) co-hosted the KF-CSIS forum, a 1.5-track dialogue for foreign-relations specialists and senior-level policy makers from both countries, in Washington, D.C.
To enhance future-oriented cooperation and facilitate dialogue on key Korea-U.S. issues, the forum had the theme “The Korea-U.S. Alliance: Strength and Resilience in the Face of Challenges.” The participants engaged in in-depth discussions of the North Korean threats to the Korea-U.S. alliance and their bilateral partnership within a regional context.
Observers noted that the forum was being held at an opportune time, since a gathering of U.S. specialists in Korea-related matters was highly appropriate in light of recent North Korean aggression, such as a nuclear test and missile launches, which could undermine the stability of Northeast Asia. The American representatives included Mark Lambert, the U.S. State Department Korea Director; Professor Robert Gallucci of Georgetown University; Victor Cha, CSIS Korea Chair; Bonnie Glaser, CSIS Senior Adviser for Asia; and Bruce Klinger, Senior Research Fellow for Northeast Asia at the Heritage Foundation. The Korean delegation included former KF President Hyun-seok Yu; Shin Beom-chul, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director-General for Policy Planning; Professor Kim Sung-han of Korea University, former Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Vice President Choi Kang of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies.
