Cooling Off with Donggang River Rafting
Amid the sweltering heat of July, the KFVN’s Korean Culture Class headed to the Donggang River, one of Korea’s most popular rafting sites, to cool off, if only temporarily. Boasting clear waters and beautiful scenery, the Donggang River provided the program participants with a refreshing and thrilling rafting experience that splashed away the summer’s heat and humidity. When everyone returned to dry land, we spent some time getting to know Waseem Rao of Pakistan.
KFVN: How did you find out about the Korean Culture Class?
Waseem: I’m currently studying Korean language on a KF scholarship. I heard about the culture class through the Foundation, but my studies kept me too busy to join the activities. This time, however, my fellow students from the language academy convinced me to tag along.
KFVN: Did you have any previous experience with rafting outings along the Donggang?
Waseem: This is my first time rafting in Korea. I didn’t know about the Donggang River until I read the Korean Culture Class program schedule. The scenery was beautiful, and the rafting was a lot of fun. If another chance presents itself, I want to come along again.
KFVN: What was your most memorable experience of today?
Waseem: Today’s most memorable moment was when I looked around at the natural surroundings during the rafting trip. Not only was it indescribably beautiful, but it placed my mind at ease.
KFVN: What are your plans related to Korea?
Waseem: I hope to enter grad school here to study Korean-language education. I still have a long way to go, but I’m never going to quit striving to become a Korean language teacher in my native Pakistan. I also plan on taking part in more Korean Culture Class events!
