2023 Public Diplomacy Rhapsody—Melodies without Borders
From September 26 to 27, the KF will present the 2023 Public Diplomacy Rhapsody at the Nodeul Live House in western Seoul. Under the theme “Melodies without Borders,” the 2-day music festival is designed to enhance understanding of world cultures and public diplomacy among Koreans and foreign residents in Korea. Featuring innovative music that truly transcends boundaries, the festival will stage performances by six groups, including three whose participation was made possible through cooperation with the Jeonju International Sori Festival.
The September 26 program includes Mari Kalkun, a singer-songwriter who sings about Estonian nature and tradition in Võro, the language spoken in the artist’s native region of Võrumaa, Estonia; Constantinople&Ablaye Cissoko, a multi-national band of artists that offers musical exchange between Persia and West Africa through instruments and vocals; ADG7 or AkDanGwangChil, a Korean band creating an interesting and entertaining sound through the use of traditional Korean vocals and instruments.
The following-day’s program will be graced by the contemplative, emotional music of Sunny Kim & Aviva Endean, an Australian and Korean duo; TEKERÉ, a group of artists from Côte d’Ivoire and Korea producing a fresh sound based on African rhythms and melodies; and CHUDAHYE CHAGIS, the shaman punk band led by traditional Korean singer Chu Da-hye.
Additionally, a diverse pre-show program will include workshops about the Indian classical dance “Odissi” and West African dance. Please note that although admission is free, reservations are a must for this popular festival.
