Korean-Produced Entertainment Ranks 2nd Among Americans Subscribers in 2022

According to a survey of global streaming platform subscribers released by the Korea Communications Commission and Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation, American citizens listed Korean-produced entertainment as their second choice after US-produced content. The survey showed that US-produced shows were chosen by 90.4 percent of the Americans surveyed, followed by those choosing media produced by Korea (43.1%), the United Kingdom (28.7%), Japan (25.3%) and China (16.2%), respectively.

Subscribers’ appreciation of Korean shows and movies was distributed fairly evenly in terms of genre: action (24.2%), romance/melodrama (23.8%), and horror/thriller/zombies (23.2%). When it came to Korean reality TV, Americans listed game shows (14.7%) as their favorite, followed by dating shows (12.9%) and audition/survival shows (11.5%).
