KF USA Launched in September for Korea-US Exchange
In September of this year, the KF Office in Washington, DC, was moved
and expanded to launch the Korea Foundation USA. The KF USA will plan
and practice bilateral programs for academic, cultural, and policy
exchange, covering not only the capital city region but the entire
United States.
KF USA aims to become a sarangbang (or “guestroom”) of Korea-US
exchange. Like the sarangbang in traditional Korean houses, where
scholars studied, read, and conversed with friends, KF USA will become
a place where experts, scholars, and students studying Korea in the
United States can gather and nurture a deeper understanding of Korea.
KF USA will feature the Korea Lounge, where a large variety of
Korea-related books will be freely accessible, and the Smart Work
Center, where anyone interested in Korea will be welcome. It will
continue to carry out the duties of the KF Office in Washington, DC,
including providing support for Korea-related research conducted at
major institutes in the area and promoting comprehensive information
about Korea to the mass media and opinion leaders in Congress.
Taking advantage of its space, KF USA will host roundtable discussions
and special lectures on Korean arts and culture, sociopolitical
issues, and various other topics. It will also organize programs
designed to enhance American people’s general knowledge of Korea and
help them explore Korean attractions with which they may not be
familiar.
