2021 ASEAN Market Held
From October 8 to 10, the 2021 ASEAN Market provided visitors with an
opportunity to see and enjoy ASEAN handicrafts, food, tea, coffee, and
plants and learn about ASEAN lifestyles through a talk and a
traditional performance.
ASEAN residents in Korea sold craftworks from their native countries
and shared their experiences of adapting to Korean society during the
event’s talk. The performance of a traditional dance from the
Philippines was particularly meaningful for Korea-ASEAN exchange.
Visitors were able to virtually travel to ASEAN countries through many
other events, including a mini exhibition of authentic Southeast Asian
handicrafts; food trucks selling Burmese meal kits and Thai coconut
drinks; a Mekong coffee-tasting session; a Vietnamese rattan craft
workshop; and an ASEAN cooking class presided over by food director
Moon Hee Jung.
For those who could not visit the market in person, the ASEAN Culture
House livestreamed the event on its YouTube channel and sold products
on Instagram Live, using the app’s shopping function.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, visitors were required to make a
reservation before attending the market and its events. For the same
reason, the talk and the performance were held online, without an
in-person audience.
